Pizza by the Bay is a popular choice among visitors to Marine Drive, celebrated for its vibrant atmosphere, live music, and heritage. However, my recent breakfast experience at this establishment was not as vibrant as we expected
Every time I visit Marine Drive, I'm drawn to this iconic spot at the crossroads—a stunning white rounded building with windows that reflect the hustle and bustle around it. The vibrant chatter of people and the endless expanse of the Arabian Sea create an electric atmosphere that’s hard to resist. This time, I’ve decided to step inside and fully immerse myself in the excitement!
It was 9:30 AM, and the moment we stepped into the restaurant, it wasn't the stunning Christmas décor or the chic white interiors that struck us—it was the noise! The chatter of excited diners filled the air, overshadowing even the classic English tunes playing softly in the background. We were led to a cozy corner table, positioned lengthwise, which turned our dining experience into a game of reach and stretch.
Water was served promptly—a sign of a good restaurant, in my opinion. The breakfast menu was short and sweet, so we ordered a feast: shakshuka, Bombay-style French toast, crispy hash browns with pork sausage, a rejuvenating veggie drink, and a plate of fresh fruit because, why not?
However, our excitement quickly turned to impatience as we waited a lengthy 30 minutes for our food. When it finally arrived, we spotted what we presumed was the Bombay French toast, but with no confirmation from the waiter, we were left to guess. To make matters amusing, the dishes were placed in the center of our elongated table, making it a comical challenge to eat without spilling!
I ended up ruining my shirt in the process, prompting a call to the waiter for side plates—by the time they arrived, half our meal was gone and the rest was a messy scene. The rest of our food came with a similar delay, and despite the lively atmosphere, the noise, spills, and long waits made our breakfast experience a bit sour. The food was decent but not extraordinary, and while the staff was polite, the crowd left them a bit overwhelmed. All in all, it was a breakfast adventure to remember, if not one we'd rush back to!other dishes also served with a significant waiting time. so with all that noise, all that food spillage, all that long wait and morning hunger the experience of breakfast turned little sour. the food was okay, not something that you will get only here. the staff was we behaved but because of so many people there was a delay in attention and serving.
Our shakshuka had a dramatic entrance, arriving a good 45-50 minutes late—clearly, it was forgotten! When it finally arrived, it was just average, definitely not worth the wait. We opted not to ask for a side plate this time, as we figured it’d be quicker to dig in than to wait for the waiter to notice us.
The bill was as expected from a well-established restaurant, but the real treat was escaping the chaos for the refreshing salty air of Marine Drive. What a mix of frustration and relief!
Food: 4/5 - Tasty, but not particularly unique.
Ambience: 3/5 - The decor was nice, but the noise was little irritating
Overall Experience: 2.5/5 - A bit underwhelming.
Will I return? Not in the near future!
